Older patients successfully adopt CardioWatch during recovery after cancer surgery

A qualitative study by Leiden University Medical Center evaluated the experiences of 16 patients aged 70–82 who wore the Corsano CardioWatch 287-2 before and after cancer surgery. Participants used the device for a median of 104 days and wore it for a median of 23 hours per day.

Most patients found CardioWatch easy to use and integrate into daily life, and reported high trust in the technology. They expressed particular interest in accessing their own data, receiving personalized recovery feedback, and using continuous monitoring to identify potential complications after hospital discharge. Patients living alone saw particular value in the additional reassurance provided by remote monitoring.

The study concludes that wearable monitoring can support patient-centred recovery after cancer surgery in older adults. Successful clinical implementation should offer patients choice, personalized feedback and human support, while addressing practical issues such as smartphone compatibility and battery use.
